Towards our
goal of building sustainable education for
this village

Xongja Preschool (Laos)
Open: September 2011
This project creates new, adequate space for the 150+ students in the community; it also marks the beginning of a partnered commitment to educational opportunities and increased attendance rates.
In Xongja, education is in its infancy. Attendance rates are low, no external aid had ever been provided, and the 1,600+ people in this village are living in the extremes of rural poverty that often make going to school impractical.
In the end though, it comes down to what they do have: Potential and perseverance. And in Xongja, they have a lot of it.
With a staff of all local teachers who were ready to bring about serious change in their educational institutions, the school of Xongja got a major facelift. We partnered to build a new 3-room structure that provides space for all pre and early primary students.
This structure in itself brings more students to school, as the old classrooms were far too small to even fit all potential students.
Now that the school is up, we’re just getting started. Between the committed support of both PoP and the Xongja community, the opportunities for these children are going to grow exponentially.
