A community center and library that serves as a place of continued education for the area’s 100+ children.
Vieng Kham sits in the rural mountains of Northern Laos. The first time we went there to meet with the education officials, we had to climb down the bank of the river and call them in off their long-tail fishing boats. And they were more than happy to come.
During that first conversation, and every step of the process since, everyone in the Vieng Kham community and Education Ministry has shown complete excitement and support for their center; we’ve heard from them time and time again that a place for their children ensures their love of education and increase the odds of continuing.
The library is open to all area students, who are be encouraged to come daily, read, and take home books. Organized activities focusing on cultural traditions and interactive education are available everyday after school.
We’re excited to see the big changes the center will bring to the kids of Vieng Kham.
