Towards our
goal of building sustainable education for
this village

Pha Theung Preschool (Laos)
Open: September 2009
PoP’s first school, built with the NGO Give Children A Choice, brings access to early childhood development to this rural village of 650+ Lao people.
If we could define community, it would be Pha Theung Village.
In Pha Theung, where the adults work long days in the fields and the average yearly income is less than $300, people take care of one another. Kids take care of one another.
During lunch break at school, there’ll be a soccer game happening on the field and pick-up sticks on the steps of the classroom. Boys and girls, preschoolers and 5th graders will be playing together. There’ll be a group of kids down at the river swimming; squealing in that very infectious, very universal, giggling-child sort of way.
And when break is over, they’ll swing on their backpacks, race each other up the hill and back into their classrooms where they’ll spend the rest of their day engaged, social and totally at home in their school.
