An hour South of Luang Prabang, the Pak Tor project introduces early education to a rural ethnic minority community.
When we first visited Pak Tor it was in the middle of a kid stampede.
Lunch break was over, and the primary students of the village were sprinting back up the hill to their school. They didn’t pause for even a second to look at the visitors; they breezed right past and into their classrooms.
But the littlest ones, they sat outside. They peeked in the windows and doors of the packed full classrooms that had no space for themselves. They were waiting. We asked a teacher, and she said that this is what they do everyday–long for school.
So the next question we asked had an obvious answer: ‘What do you want most here?’ ‘A preschool.’
Now those little ones, all 30+ of them, have their very own school.
