Pak Houy Kod Preschool (Laos)

A one-room preschool that introduces the village’s children to formal early education.

In Pak Houy Kod, education is important. And it was evident from the moment we walked into the village.

Sitting on the highest hill in the most cared for area of the community was the Pak Houy Kod primary school. It was a structure that probably should have been dilapidated; it was old, weathered. But it was not not dilapidated by any means. The community had invested heavily in caring for this place that educates their children.

And when it came to preschool, they tried something on their own. A sort of informal daycare was run on the school grounds by local parents who watched after student’s younger siblings; this gave the littlest kids a chance to socialize with one another as well as an introduction to education.

With an actual, dedicated preschool teacher and structure, these kids are taking it to the next level. Big time.
