Towards our
goal of building sustainable education for
this village

Nunsavat Preschool (Laos)
Open: November 2010
A one-room preschool that replaced a dilapidated 30-year-old structure to house Nunsavat’s preschoolers.
We met the educators and elders of Nunsavat at a village down the road. We were celebrating the completion of the Xienglohm preschool and they were there to get a firsthand look at this thing they’d heard all about: Pencils of Promise.
After that, they made all the moves. They invited us to their village, introduced us to their students, shared with us their stories. A village with all local educators, they have some of the most passionate commitment to their schools we’ve ever seen.
But they needed a preschool. Formerly, 3 to 5-year-olds went to school in a dilapidated old building. When that building finally started collapsing, those tots were out of luck. For the community of Nunsavat, that wouldn’t do. So they gathered their resources, and partnering with us, they opened their new school before the end of the year, welcoming back their youngest students.
