Towards our
goal of building sustainable education for
this village

Nong Khiaw CLC (Laos)
Open: October 2010
A re-build of the Nong Khiaw Community Cultural Center with the NGO Community Learning International, the new structure has an activity room, a library and a large outdoor area.
For most kids living in the countryside, the end of the school day means going home. Alone or with siblings, it is the end of fostered exploration for the day.
In Nong Khiaw, however, that’s far from the case. Here, when school is out, kids pile out of their classrooms and run up to the Children’s Cultural Center, or CCC. They thrown down their backpacks, kick off their sandals and get right to business. Some will start pulling books down from the shelves and finding a spot to read. Others will crowd around center’s beloved supervisor, Sengsovan, to say hello and tell her about their school day.
And during the next two hours they spend at the CCC, they’ll will check out books, play games in the field, and perform cultural dances to the beat of Sengsovan’s drum. They’ll gain extra hours of socialization, learning and fun. Extra hours that are crucial to the development of their minds and the continuation of their education.
