Towards our
goal of building sustainable education for
this village

Boum Lao Preschool (Laos)
Open: September 2011
A one-room preschool that provides space for the village’s youngest students to start their education.
Boum Lao is located in Chomphet, the poorest district of Luang Prabang province. Just a short distance from one of the wealthiest cities in Laos, Boum Lao has relatively nothing.
But, they work with what they’ve got.
Their former school, built in 1971, existed of three wooden rooms and two bamboo huts. And if it weren’t for weather and age, they’d be in great condition, because these villagers have committed themselves to the upkeep of this educational space.
However, since the structure had weathered and the population had increased since the 70′s, they were in desperate need of something new. The preschoolers were being systemically pushed out of their classroom due to overflow from elementary classes. And when asked what their biggest educational challenge was, the elders told us if was keeping their youngest in class.
So, with the help and dedication of the Boum Lao villagers, Boum Lao has just that.
