Towards our
goal of building sustainable education for
this village

Xepatuj Rabaric Primary School (Guatemala)
Broke Ground: November 2011
Just outside the Nahuala urban center lies a tightknit, enthusiastic and resourceful community!
The Xepatuj village lacked a formal school structure so they transformed their community center into a primary school. Unfortunately, these temporary rooms are made of wood and do not have roofs. The primary school students are extremely dynamic and passionate when it comes to their academic activities but the acoustics of the space make it difficult to hear. With a new structure, the students will be able to listen better and be less distracted by the other classes. Furthermore, due to lack of space the school has to rent an additional two rooms from the neighbor’s house. The students of Xepatuj need a location that they can all fit in and that they can call their own.
It is clear that the community as a whole is dedicated to bettering the educational facilities for the students. They are well organized and formed their Promise Committee extremely quickly, which includes some of the most influential community members. In Guatemala, the eldest community member is highly respected and Xepatuj’s most respected gentleman supports this project and is on the Promise Committee!
Pencils of Promise is proud to be working in such an eager and efficient village where the main focus is the children.
