PoPstar of the Week: Jarett Malouf
Team PoP July 18th, 2012This week’s PoPstar is a 6th-grader coming to us from across the country in Califorina! Jarett came up with an awesome way to use the TV show “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader” to raise money for PoP! Read more about Jarett and his fundraiser below…
A few months ago, I was scrolling through a list of non-profit organizations that I might like to check out and get involved with. I thought it would be really cool for my friends and I to make a difference. I decided that I’d like to get involved with Pencils of Promise, because I knew that I could help kids my age get the proper education they deserve.
I rounded up about 10 of my friends and we started to get more involved in POP, and we planned an awesome fundraiser with the theme “Are You Smarter Than a 6th Grader?” Our goal was to raise enough money to educate 10 kids for a year. We had lots of fun selling our POPencils and getting ready for the event. 26 kids competed in the contest, and in the end, we raised enough money to send 27 kids to school next year, so it was as if each one of us sent another child to school, which seemed pretty incredible.Thank you so much for inspiring me and helping out this worthy cause!
No, thank you, Jarett! It’s people like you who make what we do possible! Thank you so much for all of your support!
