2012 PoP Leadership Institute Success!Team PoP July 23rd, 2012
This weekend we held our second annual PoP Leadership Institute (PLI) at the Pencils of Promise office! The conference was a huge success and we wanted to tell those of you who were unable to attend all about it! Read below to find out more…
This past Saturday and Sunday, Pencils of Promise hosted the PoP Leadership Institute: The Impossible Ones. We had over 75 young people ranging from ages 15-22 come out to learn more about PoP and our upcoming campaign The Impossible Ones, as well as learn more about being a leader and social activist in their communities!
We had 13 amazing speakers come out to discuss topics such as networking, persuasive speaking, advocating, and the education crisis. We also had other young students who have overcome their own impossibles and started their own nonprofit organizations come out and share their stories!
Here’s what people had to say about it:
“I am really happy to have had this opportunity because I am certainly more motivated and inspired to make a difference in any way I can.”
“Truthfully, I thought that it would just be two days of workshops. I had tons of fun and learned a LOT of things!”
“I came in hoping to learn more about PoP and learn a lot, and I did! So great!”
A huge thanks to our sponsors: POP Chips, Lesser Evil, Whole Foods, and Zico for all of their support as well as our speakers: Jocelyn Kmet, Julia Ward, Michael Stewart, Meighan Stone, Kirsty McNeill, Emily Miethner, Joaquin Roca, Tammy Tibbetts, Christen Brandt, Angela Giacchetti, Ben Charles, Farryn Weiner, and Shane Feldman for coming out and sharing their stories and knowledge!
We hope everyone had a great time and learned a lot, we know we did! Check out our video below to get a taste of the experience, and we hope to see you all at PLI again next summer!
