About PoP

Pencils of Promise partners with local communities to build schools and increase educational opportunities in the developing world. We focus on early education, high potential females and empowering a new generation of passionate young leaders to create profound good.

PoP was founded with a $25 bank deposit by founder Adam Braun and in less than two years has grown into an international movement of over 50,000 committed supporters who are collectively demonstrating that every person has the resounding capacity to create good. Want proof? Over 90% of individual donations have been $100 or less from students and young professionals from across the globe. We’re a community, and we call ourselves The PoP Movement. By September 2010, we’ll complete our 12th school between Laos and Nicaragua… but we’re just getting started.

We do not preach Western ideals onto indigenous cultures. Our approach is one of collaborative support, listening to and working alongside each community to create self-sustaining projects that the families of each village build and maintain themselves. We also place a special focus on training and empowering females to become role models for young girls in rural communities. All of our PoP Coordinators are local women, who work with Education Ministry officials to close the gender gap and support the students within each school we build.

For anyone who is seeking that source of passion, that sense of fulfillment that is only found in knowing you have helped another… welcome to the PoP Movement.

Hello. In 2006 my mom visisted a brand new school for the deaf in Nairobi, Kenya. WE recently got news that the city, in order to make room for new pipes, bulldozed the entire school, kitchen, classrooms, everything. It was all the kids have and now they have nothing. DO you think there is anyway that you might be able to help? Please reply back. These kids are very close to my heart and are very deserving. Thank you.

Hi (Adam?), My name is Andrew Wolff and I am founder and director of Children’s Future International, a young organization with a focus on providing high quality educational opportunities to vulnerable and under-served children in Cambodia. Our main focus at the moment is on developing a Community Learning Center for Children in a village outside of Battambang.

I just came across Pencils of Promise through Razoo. I am very impressed and interested in your work and would like to speak with you in more detail about your model and about the schools that you are building. If you are interested I am willing of course to share some of our experiences, including building two schools. We are always looking for motivated and capable partners to share ideas and resources, and sometimes work towards higher level partnerships.

Please feel free to contact me any time via email or on my cell phone at 516.423.9429. Although I spend most of the year in Cambodia, I am back in NY now for about two months.

Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

    Warm Regards,
    Andrew
