Here at PoP, we know how gratifying it is to come across stories of others who share our ideals, who also see the tremendous value of investing in education.  Surely, there are hundreds of these accounts everyday, and every one of them is inspiring and encouraging in its own right. Nonetheless, one story has been making the news in the last few days, and here’s a 30-sec recap of it…

Pakistan has shown through actions its dedication to the ultimate goal of progress through education of its population. It finally unveiled an education-friendly budget that has been in the works for over three years.  A greater share of the country’s GDP will be allocated to investing in education, up to 5% from 3%, and this percentage will increase to 7% by 2015.

Additionally, the World Bank has been making headlines with its public pledge to commit an astonishing $900 million in loans to the country’s educational infrastructure.

It is stories like these that serve as an inspiring testament to the strides we as a global community are making towards recognizing the importance of education.  Achieving universal education has been listed as one of The Millennium Development Goals, which reminds us that for all the good these steps will bring about, global cooperation is still of the utmost importance in accomplishing our ultimate goals.
